Then and Now. . .
It seems like just yesterday but 11 Years ago we moved into our current house. These 2 were just 2 1/2 years old and Anni was about to be born. When Chance & Luci turned 3 that same fall, we got them this playset for our new back yard. My parents came to town and spent the weekend helping us build it. It was a whole event.
This past weekend, we passed it on to another family in our neighborhood and they came and dismantled it and took it to its new home to be loved by some new kids. We took a few last pictures of the kids with it and then it was gone.
I don't think we realized last fall we wouldn't have another season with the "clubhouse" but over the winter I think they finally outgrew it and it seemed like it was time. Then once all the snow was gone it was in need of some TLC, sanding and stain and just didn't seem like a good use of our time to spruce it up based on the amount of use the kids were really getting out of it these days (basically none!). The kids said they were ready to let it go. It wasn't the structure itself I grieved seeing go...but rather saying goodbye to another stage of my kiddo's childhood.
It is a consolation that we're planning some new fun ways to use the space in our yard that our whole family can enjoy. We also cut down a nuisance Bradford Pear tree that was growing too close to our house, so now our back yard is literally one big blank slate of possibility! I'll keep you posted as to how things progress.
