OUT TIL 1AM AND I MAY STILL BE RECOVERING…

Still Recovering…

Jeremy and I went to a concert at the Starlight Theater in KC last weekend while we were sans kids. What a beautiful and unique venue.

We saw Judah and the Lion for the second time (the first time at the Blue Note here in Columbia a couple of years ago and we were hooked).  Let me tell you they rock AND we weren’t even the oldest people there! Their music is so unique, mixing rock, folk (banjo and mandolin style) hip-hop and even some electronica.  They’re upbeat, their lyrics tell stories and they are CLEAN.  Christians, with early roots as a worship band at Belmont University in Tennessee, they wanted to reach a broader audience and now they subtly shine God’s light on mainstream and indie-alternative radio, playing at Red Rocks as we speak, which is a huge milestone for any band.

It was such a great night that we didn’t get back to Columbia until after 1AM.  I’m still recovering…

I’m not sure how it happened but today, on August 13, 2019, I realized I already have every important date, event and workshop happening at Plume between now and the end of the year not only on the calendar but pretty much fully PLANNED!    And it might just completely blow your minds to let you know Beth and I have even already talked about plans for JANUARY 2020.  Who am I?   I can’t believe it.

I guess there really is something to be said for being in business for 6 years.  6 YEARS!  Yes that date is coming up November 1st and we are planning another fun day to mark our birthday but in the meantime, there is so much more going on around here this fall.

A quick thank you so much to everyone who came out to local author Laura McHugh’s signing last week.  It was a huge success and such fun.

A couple months back Author Mindy Mejia gave a blurb for Laura’s newest book The Wolf Wants In and dubbed her “The Queen of the Haunted Heartland” in reference to her genre of choice, the ever-growing in popularity Rural Noir.  Laura recently wrote a powerful essay about her childhood and how it fuels her writing, which you can read HERE.

Of course we had to officially commemorate her new title as queen, and Jen from Three Little Birds designed this T-Shirt for her.  Jen and I even wore our very own to the signing.

We still have copies of all three of Laura’s books available at Plume and she even signed every single one of them before she left last week.  SCORE!   Grab these limited edition signed copies while they last.

I can’t believe school starts in 2 more days.  I am both ECSTATIC and SAD at the same time.   My babies.  My little 2 & 3 lb preemie babies are going to be in 5th Grade.   That being said we’re starting to experiment more with leaving them at home for short periods of time so this morning Chance (my 10 year old son) accompanied me on an early morning Sam’s Club run to restock the Bake Shoppe ingredients for the week while the girls stayed home.   Call me crazy but it was fun being with just him, even if we were at Sams club at 7:45AM.  We don’t get to do that very often one on one time very often.

And by the way…this is what 135+lbs of cupcake ingredients looks like…

And why I’m also glad I’m still working out semi-regularly so I can 1) lift all this and 2) work off the portion of this that I personally eat each week in the form of Salted Caramel Cupcakes (my personal favorite).

I’m now buying pretty regularly at least once (and sometimes twice a month…)
25 pounds of sugar
25 pounds of flour
49 pounds of powdered sugar
36 pounds of butter
…Plus 36 Chocolate Bars, a huge container of Cherries, 2 jumbo containers of Hershey Cocoa and I can’t even remember what all else.   I’m not sure at what point I’ll be able to make the jump to a food service company who will just drive right up to the shop and deliver me everything I need, but that would be so NICE.    If I could ever get organized enough I might be able to just order this all from Instacart or some other delivery place in the meantime.   But that’s a big IF.

Needless to say, if you need to order any cupcakes for an upcoming event, WE ARE HERE FOR YOU!

As mentioned earlier, we have a completely full line-up of workshops happening this fall and we couldn’t be happier than when our shop is full of friends gathered around our big table crafting together.  Keep reading, for more info about signing up for Bible JournalingHand LetteringFelt Flowers and Fabric Button Jewelry and we hope to see you at one of them soon!

And finally, friends, can I take a minute to ask for your prayers?  Without going into all the details we have 2 members of our extended Plume family who are dealing with advanced stage cancers.  It’s not me or anyone in my personal family and not any of my girls here at the shop.  But there is a young wife and mom of six and a family Patriarch who are both fighting and in need of prayer for healing and comfort.  Please join me in lifting them up.

Here’s to a great start to the school year for all our students & teachers.

I’ll see you in the shop this week!
