…MAKEOVER WAITING TO HAPPEN

April 10, 2019

Tonight I’m tired friends.  I’m just now sitting down to write this email late Tuesday night.  I have to tell you I seriously considered chucking it this week.  But I really didn’t want to break my 31 week streak.  Discipline and consistency are sometimes not a strength for me, so it makes me really happy that I’ve stuck with this email thing.   I hope you feel like you know me a bit better after allowing me in your in-box each week, these last 7 months.  I love getting your feedback and replies.  They really do encourage me.

If I were more organized, I’d have these emails well planned out and ready to go weeks ahead of time… but that’s just not how I’m able to work right now.  They’re are real time, and I sit down and just write about whatever is on my mind on a given Tuesday night before opening back up on Wednesday morning.

And tonight, it’s eating some GOPO Everything Tiger Popcorn I swiped from the shop on Saturday before we closed and just wanting to be in bed, but not able to get there yet.  I’m not a night owl.  I prefer to go to bed by 9:00 or 9:30.   And if I miss my “sleep window” it’s hard for me to calm down and then go to sleep once I do get in bed.   Which seems to be the path I’m on tonight since it’s 11:16PM.   Yep, way past my bedtime.

There has been so much going on at the shop behind the scenes this week.  It may seem like I’ve been quiet on social media but it’s for the greater good! For the past 48 hours my friend, and hired hand, Jen Seris has been helping me through email migration from Outlook to Gmail.  I have a new email address!  It’s kelly@somethingplume.com.   Feel free to email me there anytime.   We also now have cupcakes@somethingplume.com, makers@somethingplume.com, events@somethingplume.com.   I feel like we’ve arrived!   This will allow the girls in the shop to help me stay on top of Cupcake Orders and Gathering Room events and all the other fun things we’re doing around here.

I’m happy for this transition, but it’s a much bigger thing than I realized.  I’ve never used Gmail and have been on Outlook for the last 5+ years.   Jen’s been holding my hand all the way through it.  I couldn’t find my archives!  I couldn’t find my trash/Junk/SPAM… I couldn’t figure out how to swipe and delete on my phone.  I could  barely figure out how to send an email.  Bless Jen’s Heart.  She’s been a champ.

I’ve also had some help on another front the last couple weeks as we take on PROJECT BACK ROOM!    I need to transform that space from unproductive junk storage (and might I add a hazard zone) to a more functioning back room and design studio and IT’S HAPPENING SOON!   Jana from Studio J, who knows how I think and how I like to work probably better than anyone, is helping me make sure I cover all my needs and space plan accordingly based on all the functions I want to take place in the space and my friend Suzanne, (just because she’s awesome and thinks it will be FUN/!?) is helping me organize everything.  The goal is not only for it to be functional, but also pretty and inspiring!

Here are a few before pics.  I’m embarrassed to show these but it’s necessary for you to be able to appreciate the transformation later.

If you see anything that happens to belong to you… feel free to stop by and pick it up!   This is the antithesis of all that Plume is!   It’s Chaos and Ugly and wasted space and I can’t take it anymore.

Yep, that’s a Vintage Hickman Cheerleading Uniform hanging in the background there.  I promise I have plans for that thing!

And how about that Vintage Fur Coat and Wicker Baby Bassinet?  Yep, have plans for those too.  At least that’s what I keep telling myself.

Honestly, places like my storage unit are the places I LOVE to dig through in others peoples homes.  I love helping others Organize and Decorate and Spruce up.  But there’s just too much going on in this space right now for me to tackle on my own so I’m so thankful Jana and Suzanne are going to help me.   I’ll be sharing more of that in the coming weeks.

I got the privilege of bringing on NEW MAKERS last week, with still a few more to come in the next few weeks…so I’m excited to get this email migration project and my back room project finished so I can start sharing more of their stories with you. You’re going to love them.

And finally, one important event coming up this weekend, Saturday April 13th, is our Spring Fling Shop Hop.  We’re joining several other locally owned businesses to donate 10% of all sales directly to Granny’s House!   Granny Pam is the best, and her love for kids in Columbia is fierce.   You can hop over HERE to read more about what Granny’s House does for kids in Public Housing.    We’ll also be giving away a $50 Plume Gift Certificate to one lucky shopper.  You can register with any purchase.  We may have a few other treats up our sleeve but you’ll have to just stop in and say HI on Saturday to find out.  I’m too tired to think it all through at the moment.

If you’re coming on Saturday, you can RSVP on our Facebook Event HERE to help spread the word.

Thanks for hanging with me friends.

See you in the shop in just a few hours when we open back up at 10am!

P.S.  Open Wednesday – Friday 10-6 and Saturday 10-4.
