He's My Favorite...

With school called off due to snow, I'm sure many of you are scrambling a bit today. So an extra "thank-you" for taking the time to open and read this e-mail! Normally, in years past, I'd be freaking out, wondering how to care for my kiddos and keep the shop open when employees can't make it in.   But in a Covid world, so much has changed and I guess I feel like we've kind of been living in a world full of "snow days" for quite some time now.  Plus, Jeremy is now working from home permanently, so I don't have to stress about who will be home with them.

(He works for State Farm, and you may know they've closed their Columbia office but have so far maintained all the employees, but converted to 100% virtual.  We're hopeful that this will continue long term beyond the "return to normal" post-Covid.)

He's been working from home now for almost a year.  I think his last day in office  was sometime around March 19th 2020, which was the same as the kids last "normal" day of school.   He's handled the transition really well.  His work-from-home originally started at the dining room table when we all naively thought this would just be a few weeks.   We don't have an office in our house, and once things appeared more long term he moved himself down to our basement into our John Deere room where things were more quiet, but unfinished and no windows.  It's like a CAVE!    But our kids had taken over our basement so completely it was the only place he could go to have enough privacy to work.  (He spends almost 100% of his day on conference calls.)   After Christmas, we finally decluttered and rearranged the basement enough to make him a better spot to work, near the windows in the main part of the basement.

He's one of the most disciplined people I know and I love and admire him for it so much.   He still gets up every morning between 4:30 - 5:30 to work out.   I think he does it as much for his mental as physical health.    As I've mentioned before, discipline is not one of my strength.

But when people always say..."I don't know how you do everything you do.  Three kids, a home to take care of, and a business..."  He is the "HOW".    He does more than his fair share of meal prep, vacuuming, school assistance, defusing arguments, home repairs, making us laugh, taking us on adventures.

I know my value as God's daughter.  I know I'm a strong and smart woman.  I'm all for women being independent and following dreams.  But there is a lie out there that tries to fool you into thinking you can "do all, be all".     There are simply only 24 hours in every day.  By it's very nature, time runs out on us all.   There is no way I could do what I do without the support of my husband.  And it hasn't always been easy for him.  I know I've made choices at times that have put business over Jeremy and the kids.    Make no mistake, there would be no Plume without him.

He's my favorite.
